my trip to san francisco for new year's eve:

jason and i went out 2 the hardware store at 9pm the night before we left (i leave everything till the last minute) and i put together a flimsy gate made out out 2 pieces of peg board wired together then hinged onto the wall and closed with a latch hook. i felt so butch :) i even bought a power drill :)

while i slept, jason went out sightseeing and when i awoke i went out and got myself a yummy cobb salad and waited for him 2 return. i was having a hard time getting my pictures 2 ftp for some odd reason at first.

i don't normally drink coffee much, but i really drank a lot while i was in san francisco, especially that first day. on the first day i really didn't get much sightseeing done because i was too exhausted. but i had fun just being in the hotel room watching tv. new surroundings at least and free little bars of soap, my favourite part :)

then i decided 2 check in on the dogs who were on cam 4 on ana2, to see how my gate was holding up. i saw one picture of pooka, and then he was gone and i just knew had had jumped the gate, i don't know how he does it. he is so light and skinny and spastic. so i called carolyn, who had keys to the apartment and lives close to me and asked her if she'd go see if pooka got out, and if so, to put the two leashes together to make one long leash and leash pooka up. deiter is too heavy to jump as high as that fence, he usually gets out by sheer force.

sure pooka was out, but carolyn nabbed him and leashed him, thank god! deiter still was behind the gate so he remained unleashed. 'cause if i leashed them both, they would get tangled in each other.i watched carolyn on my cam and she called me at my hotel on my phone. cams are cool things to watch your pets on!

the next morning i ordered breakfast in bed. the prices were high, but not as high as room service nornally is. i got scrambled eggs, smoked ham, pancakes and coffee. god, now i'm super hungry just thinking about it. i laid in bed most of the afternoon and watched the news as it showed all the countries ringing in the new year all over the planet! it was incredible to watch!

and i took a bath to get myself ready to go out sightseeing to chinatown. i had been wanting to go to chinatown for decades!

i called my mom and dad and told them i had arrived safely.
i'd been to san francisco about a decade ago for only a few days. i went there spur of the moment at 2am when i was 19 ( ok, so OVER a decade ago..wow! ). i was in love with robyn hitchcock's swanky hippy tour manager, and they were playing in san francisco and he ( howie... ) called me up in the middle of the night and told me he was there. i'd been saving money 2 see him in england..but that night, at 2am...i decided 2 take what i'd saved so far and just go there right them and see him ( i'm a sucker for english accents and patchouli ) . i left a message at my work 2 tell them i wouldn't be in that day ( stupid retail clothing store ) and woke up my mom ( i lived with her for a few years after i quite high school 3 months before i graduated...punk rock! )..and i told her of my plans and thought she'd be furious. but she woke up and said, " i can get u a better fare than that!" hehe :) anyway...howie the hippy , in the long run ended up being another dickhead in my long line of abusive dickhead boyfriends ( hi, howie, if u read this, u know i still adore u , but u WERE a dickhead, it's true )...but my time with him in san francisco was super fun. and i got 2 see robyn hitchcock in his striped pajamas just waking up. which was such a cute spectacle :)( i am easily amused :) he is one of my favourite songwriters and singers of all time

i think i could spend a MONTH in chinatown at least! because i'm crazy about bizarre fish products and asian kitch. i ran into this store that had more sanrio things than i've ever seen! ( u know, hello kitty ) . but i found more characters that were things like cute ghosts, and pandas, and penguins from space, and an egg creature, and some kind of creature named "pinkle", and a rabbit thing named "bibi"..i can't explain it...but maybe u know what i'm talking about. i also don't know what came over me but all of a sudden i was enraptured by that "pikachu" thing. and now i'm obsessed. i don't care about the pokemon game...i just want a giant stuffed pikachu doll 2 smoosh :)

of all the new year's fireworks displays from around the world, my favourite was paris! wow! the eiffel tower looked like it was going to take off into space! i'll never forget it. i can't even imagine how beautiful that must have been to be there in real life. london was the biggest display, but paris' was just wayyyy the coolest, in my opinion. and australia's was pretty darn cool too!

jason and i talked in my irc channel, too. zachary vex was with jennifer from jennicam and her friend jodi in new york city in times square and they all stopped in and said a quick hello! jennifer was hosting new year's eve for earthcam! i wish i could have seen it, but my computer with it's cdpd modem could barely ftp pictures and be in irc at the same time.irc was so cool, 'cause no matter where we all were , all around the world having fun, we were still all in irc! it was camgirl central in there with jennifer, and isabella and courtney and ee and cyka and stephanie from stv and morgaine. and now i'm going to feel bad if i don't name everyone who was in there, because i am not remembering it very clearly because i was drinking cheap wine at that point and getting all giddy and psyched up to go outside to see what kind of thing would happen in san francisco when the clock struck midnight (for a bunch of links to a bunch more cool cams from people who hang out in my chatroom, go to i.am/irccams!)

here is a log from the chat an hour an hour before midnight EST to an hour after EST.i also want to somehow get a pic of what everyone's cam was doing right at midnight their time. i think mine was just pointed in my hotel somewhere not being very interesting because i didn't want to take a heavy laptop with many cords dangling into a crowd of half a million people. i was still rather scared of possible terrorists opening fire, too! but thankfully that didn't happen anywhere in the world! not that i heard of, anyway.anyway, it just felt really fucking cool to celebrate the turning of midnight on the east coast with everyone in analove and watching dick clark and everything. it was almost cooler to me to ring in the new year on the east coast with everyone in analove than it even was when it actually happened to me on the west coast. but i think part of that, too, was that at midnight on the west coast, things were pretty blurry for me because i drank wayyyyy toooo much!

i also ran into a large vat filled with real dried seahorses when i was in chinatown, which was very sad, yet i was compelled 2 buy one and i was going to colour it in glitter nailpolish and send it 2 tori amos 'cause she loves them 'cause they are both male and female both at once. i want to find out more about them now, it was just so incredible. but now i feel terrible because i was looking up on the net what seahorses are used for in chinese medicine ( it's for "goiter" whatever the heck THAT is )...and i found out the seahorse is becoming extinct because of the practice of them being used for medicine. but i'll still glitter it and honour it's little fragile body and never buy another one again.

and then things started to get a little blurry for me

the hotel was advertising that they were selling bottles of dom perignon, so i decided to spend my last bucks of the year on a bottle. i'd never had it before so i thought this particular new year's was a good enough reason to drop the cash on that. it was $130 bucks, then i gave a $20 gratuity thing. i went down to the desk to buy it so it wouldn't go on jason's credit card. then when the guy came up to deliver it at 9:30pm ( 'cause we wanted 2 toast at 10pm west coast time 'cause that was midnight CST, where our home is ), i showed the guy, lawrence is his name ( he pointed out his name tag many times and said over and over LORRRRENCE, so we would never forget)...i showed him that i had given him his tip when i paid for it at the desk..but he said that that would be split up between a bunch of people, so jason gave him a ten dollar bill. so the bottle ended up costing $160. it came with strawberries, too. it was GOOD, but i'll take a cheap bottle of asti anyday and use my money to buy cds instead! dom schmom.

i kept the bottle as a momento

so after the entire earth had said happy new year except for the west coast...jason and i headed out to a place by the wharf that was having a big party fireworks display thing. i was pretty damn drunk by this time, and i didn't realize i was until i woke up at 6am in bed with all my clothes on, just barely under the covers...and i had a very hazy recollection of midnight. i remember walking back to the hotel when it was all over with. i remember there were lots of fireworks. i remember the cops all lined up in their full gear. but i don't remember pointing my finger at them and mock shooting them , like my hand was a pistol! jason told me i did this. i have NO idea what on earth i was thinking! man, the cops had their hands full and i can't belive that *I* was one of the assholes! i really actually LIKE cops, unlike so many of my friends. i've never had a bad experience with one. i remember hearing The Pretenders through loudspeakers 'cause they were playing live somewhere. we did not have a great view of anything. i wish i could see it played on tv to see what i missed! and as i was walking home i remember they blasted that "celebration" song by earth, wind and fire or whoever wrote that. and i was looking on the ground for souveniers but didn't find much. some fake money and some confetti. i wanted a cool party hat or some of thos weird glasses in the shape of "2000"

the next day my head hurt. duh! jason said that alcoholics drink to make themselves not have a headache or something, so i actually drank the last two glasses of warm dom to see if this would make my headache go away. this did not work! duh! so i had some excedrin and some coffee and finally it went away. but i was pretty out of it for the first part of the day. i felt weird that i couldn't remember falling asleep. this has been the second time in my life that i do not remember something because of alcohol, and these two times have been in the last few months! i wonder if i'm just getting older and have no tolerance for alcohol like i did when i was younger. but i did end up having a really fantastic day driving around with jason and brett from rancid ( go look at their new website they just put it up!)and looking at absolutely everything from the car window. i can now say i was at haight ashbury , we drove past it very fast! we drove way up into the hills and i saw these incredible billion dollar mansions that made me drool with desire!
i am so pissed that i didn't atke the laptop with me in the car. but i didn't know that we'd be in the car mostly, but i could have taken some REALLY cool pictures if i had known what we were gonna do. i could just shoot myself, mockingly, like i did to the macho policeguys. i must go back there. soooooo much tooooo seeee and dooooo it makes me crazy! and to see the ocean from the car and not be able to touch it! torture! but it was pretty cold out. 40ish with a wind. but sunny finally on that last day!

one of my biggest delights was watching my pupsters on the cam. i just have to get the cam at a better angle next time, 'cause deiter totally disapeared from view and i thought he had gotten out...but if he had gotten out i know he would have dragged the turtle into the middle of the livingroom, and the turtle was still in the black chair. so jason and i were super worried all the way home hoping he was ok!it was awful! but when we opened the door we heard his squeal and he was just fine and he was still in the kitchen. i guess he had just been sleeping in a corber the cam couldn't see for a very long time.

we took the hotel shuttle/taxi thing to the airport. it cost 11 bucks a piece.

jason had the window seat on the way home 'cause i had had it on the way there. i would have taken pictures on the plane on the way to san francisco if it hadn't been so extremely crowed and i hadn't ben so tired. we fly over nebraska, wyoming, utah and nevada, i think. lots of desolate neat patterns from mountains. my favourite aerial view was when i took a plane once from vegas to L.A. when i was on tour. the desert was so gorgeous from that view it actually made me cry! jason pointed my cam out the window for me while simultaneously reading his c++ book ( a programming language), he NEVER stops multitasking! aren't these pictures sooooo pretty???? i am so happy i finally got some pictures from a plane. so many times it would be dark or rainy or i wouldn't be by a window!

i even tried to make some avi's from inside the plane with webcam32, but i they are only a few seconds long. i was experimenting. now that i know i can easily make avi's with webcam32, i'm going to be making a LOT more of them!

i always ask for a soda, unopened, with a glass of ice, so i can have the whole can instead of just that little glass

in case of emergency, this picture can be used as a floatation device

the girl who was sleeping next to me on the plane is named susan. she is working on her master's in art history. she lives in NYC and she likes laurie anderson. i tried to explain to her what i was doing with my cam and what my site was, but i don't think she understood. i gave her the url to anacam on a gum wrapper. i wonder if she'll ever read this someday and laugh. or if i'll never see her again. she said i was a "silly girl". but she meant that in a kind way :) she was very beautiful with perfect skin. i wish i could have taken pictures of her while she was sleeping.

it was a sad moment to find my hello kitty cup broken to pieces when i opened up my suitcase :( it was going to be my special cup to drink from at my desk! *CRY* but i have the card of the place...i made sure to get it so if i ever go back to san francisco i can get back there because that store has EVERYTHING in it i ever wanted! ( ok, so that's not entirely true, but i LOVE that store!!! and i want the giant stuffed hello kitty they had! *sigh*). the woman who rang up all my things i bought was smiling so much and nodding that yes indeed all these things were so wonderful and she loved my hello kitty purse i had with me! she was a true hello kitty lover! so here is the name and address and phone # of this store if anyone wants to know of it:

it took me quite awhile to get all the pix i'd saved off the laptop onto floppy disks and onto my main computer which is what i'm making this analog on. and speaking of floppy disks, i am totally out of them . if anyone has any floppy disks laying around that they don't want, used or whatever...i will gladly take them off your hands and send u something nifty back in return!
