Yeah sure, Ana Voog isn’t a household name as of yet but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. From Minneapolis, wearing green Saran-Wrap as a minidress, Ana Voog is the nineties answer to Nina Hagen. What ever happened to Nina anyway? Well, Ana is an artist. Yes, a musical artist but a visual artist as well. An artist with a daring sense of purpose. Even the title to her debut solo album bears the name of her very popular and rather revealing website: anavoog.com. Ana's website has loads of information about her new release and is complete with an "ana-cam" that is a permanent fixture in her apartment in Minneapolis. Here people can watch her every move no matter how bold and if you’ve missed any of it, Ana put archival photo’s (some of her favorites) online for you to see as well. The quote appears as the website scrolls down: "Privacy is in the mind." Alrighty then, back to the disc... Ana’s music is very pop oriented with lyrics that are colorful and fun. Tracks like, Beautiful Accident, are merely word-play from one twin set to the next: "..shotgun, gunfire, firefly, flytrap..." you get the picture. Some of Ana’s influences include Stereolab, the Orb, PJ Harvey, and Kraftwerk. And it shows. Her music is very electronic and experimental. Throughout the whole lp every song has it’s own identity and flavor. Included in the musical disc is a cd-rom complete with a home video of Ana talking about the release and other interesting stuff. It’s weird but it’s cool to be weird isn’t it?
