i'm back early!
life always throws curveballs, but it was just as much about the journey as
the destination.
so i did turn 40 in portal, just not as planned!
the night we arrived, we walked around the town a bit figuring out where i
was going to film my 1st scene and i found it.
then that night, the freezing rain started!
and it rained all night, and the next day, my birthday, it rained ALL day
and night again!
FREEZING rain. with very high winds!
they thought it night even SNOW!
so after my birthday, the next morning, we left, expecting icy roads, but
it was not icy so thank goodness. and no snow.
but there really was nothing that could be done in almost 30 degree weather
and pouring rain with high winds!
thank god i just went there to scout out the place and just BE there...40
in portal. i DID accomplish THAT mission, and so i am satisfied about that.
and we did have a good time, in a rather strange way!
and i have many stories, photos, and mini movies to sort through to show you
all!
but right now i need to unwind, unpack, and all that :)
my neck still hurts but it finally started getting better yesterday. so that
is finally starting to mend itself.
i have to tell you about the motel, the abandoned houses and farms,
what i did with my birthday cake, tell you about the outback saloon, why the
last chance cafe is no more, and the giant buffalo.
there are lots of little treasures and details to share :)
like how i accidentally started myself on fire (ouch!!!).
but give me some time to sort it all out and unwind :)
even tho i did not get to do the things i planned on doing, it was well worth
the trip and i feel very satisfied having done it.
and this is just the beginning anyway :)
portal was really cute. we saw all sorts of tiny little towns (and i mean
TINY). there really is still so much to explore in north dakota. it is a very
mysterious state.

voog dog update
at 9 am my 3 dear boys arrived.
we spent an hour out in the backyard, pooping, picking up poop, smelling things
etc.
then we went up to the bed where p was laying around. the boys were happy
to see him.
king still has a bit of a thing for pooka but he is much less fervent about
trying to hump him all the time.
the boys are all getting along very well.
deiter is a little freaked out by august's jumping and spazzy kid ways but
august is good at giving him space.
we were off a bit to some easter events.
sebastian chewed me out when i got home. i think he was pissed that i left
him. he is extremely attached and a bit uptight about it. at my feet, staring
at me, wimpering. the 2 other boys are very relaxed and happy.
so i am trying to give sebastian lots of lap time which seems to satify him.
one of my favorite things to see was p on the back deck, laying on his lounge
chair, playing banjo with pooka up laying on his chest, super happy and relaxed,
and deiter laying across him lap. last time we dog sat paul made breakthroughs
with deiter and started to get pooka. this time pooka is definately loving
the relaxed paul ways. and he is trying to break through to sebastian.
kiitos came over for some pooka love and spent some time with them while we
were off at the family stuff. i didn't want to leave them.
i am so happy to have them here. pooka is like a soft bird cat. so delicate,
but the most adventuresome of the boys, off exploring the yard.
hope that the portal roadtrip is going well.

it is weird how natural it feels to have 5 dogs (excpet the queen size bed
gets a bit crowded with 5 dogs, 2 adults and one half-pint sized human).
these guys are so easy. much less trouble making than mine. they just need
lots and lots of love. and i have that :)
and there have been no poopings or peeings inside other than on the newspaper!

i think the voog dogs love it here.
this morning pooka did a sweet freak out and was going around rubbing himself
on the furniture and doing lots of chin spins.
yesterday when paul came home from work, pooka and deiter went running right
up to him. whenever we get home and i open the back door, king and scooter
always make a beeline for me, who has been gone for 10 minutes to go pick
up paul, as opposed to paul, who has been gone all day. so it was very sweet
to see them make a beeline for him. they then spent the next several hours
lieing on him out on the deck. paul calls pooka "feather" because
he is so light.
and deiter is getting used to august's antics. yesterday august, pointing
to deiter, said, "that doggie has the cutest face ever."
august has been pretending he is a dog too. a dog named cuddles. he has a
high pitched ruff, and also this dog can speak english.
i had all 5 out for a walk yesterday. that was fun. i will do it again today.
so the sweetness abounds here. i am sure some would be sickened by the over the top levels of sweetness, cuteness, and love.

more great doggie times.
deiter has now totally mellowed to august. he has gone from growling at him
to giving him loving looks :) it's a beautiful thing to see. august has been
very nice to him, taking it easy around him, and giving him gentle pets and
kisses.
and sebastian has made progress too. a few days ago when i went up into august's
loft, sebastian sat and wimpered the whole time. this time he went and found
paul.
