$pread presents Sex Worker Visions, an exhibition featuring art by sex workers
and about the sex industry, at the LGBT Community Center David Bohnett Cyber
Center at 208 West 13th Street, New York City, from March 29 – May 20.
Visions
kicks off with an opening reception on March 29 from 6 to 9 pm.
Visions is curated by Audacia Ray, Executive Editor of $pread and former
Assistant Curator at the Museum of Sex. Artists include sex activist and
educator Heather Corinna, former SuicideGirl and illustrator Molly Crabapple,
exotic dancer and photographer Charise Isis, and former prostitute and
filmmaker Anne Hanavan, as well as Paul Sarkis and George Pitts’ intimate
portraits of porn stars. Photographs by Erin Siegal and illustrations by Fly
and Cristy Road originally appearing in $pread will also be on display. Sales
will benefit the non-profit magazine.
The March 29 event is also the opening night of the Sex Work Matters conference,
a joint venture of CUNY and the New School (http://www.sexworkmatters.net).
The evening
also marks $pread's one year anniversary, and the Spring issue of the magazine
will be available for sale at the reception.
For opening night only, the exhibit will be completely interactive
with a webcam
video project, “30 Second Sex,” masterminded by multimedia artist
and erotic
professional Melissa Gira and featuring webcam pioneers Ana Voog and Echo
Transgression camming from remote locations.
Computer monitors around the Cyber
Center will display the websites of sex worker rights advocacy groups for
the
public to peruse. Former call girl Tracy Quan along with sex worker activist
Carol Leigh (aka Scarlot Harlot: http://www.unrepentantwhore.com/) will be
signing copies of their respective
books, Diary of a Married Call Girl and Unrepentant Whore.

yesterday i spent a lot of time here:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/index.html
i wish i still had a copy of the
blue up?'s rider.
maybe i do somewhere.
no one ever actually gave us anything on our rider except for ONE place.
this MASSIVE country bar in the south that was so big it had it's own indoor
volleyball court and mud wrestling arena. huge screens everywhere and it was
like 25 cent beer night or some such horrible thing, so everyone was very
very drunk. it was our worst nightmare.
not only were we not a country band, and we did not have some massive crew
(there were just the 4 of us girls, and that was it) , but 25 cent beer night
on top of it?
an entire malls worth of drunk southerners wanting a country band.
and this place got us EVERYTHING on our rider, and VATS worth of it, as if
we had the crew of bruce springsteen.
we had a VAT ( and i am not kidding!) of tabouli, a VAT of hummus, and i can't
remember what other foods we requested (i only remember those because carolyn
is a vegetarian, i can't even remember what i requested, probably a bottle
of jagermeister), but there was a VAT of every single thing. it was a horrible
thing to see that these people had spent all this money on this food and here
we were, just 4 of us, and no crew.
and we hauled in all our own gear ourselves, NO ONE would lift a finger.
and then during our show, in which the p.a. was HORRIBLE, but our image was
being tranmitted to every fucking corner of this mall via these gigantic screens,
we had the audience screaming at us to take off our tops and throwing nickels
and dimes at us.
we were afraid!
at the end of our set, i grabbed all the change on the stage (because i was
totally poor) and i bought myself a few cans of pop from the machines at our
motel.
we had nothing to take all that food with, and not like it would keep with
no refrigeration.
i hope somebody down there wanted to eat a lot of tabouli and hummus.
tonight, at 5:30pm, i am going out
to dinner with jason and his dad and then we are going to go see the comedian
steven wright.
i don't feel very energetic and i still have my cough so jason is going to
give me some cough medicine before we go out.
jason also has the cough and so does his dad.
so we will be all trying not to cough.
i hope i will like steven wright. i need some humour in my life.
stupid email of the month!
here is the stupidest email i have gotten all month:
"Been getting mails from fisting lesbians recently and was wondering if you could do a theme on fisting?"
ummmm ya. one "fisting theme"
coming right up! no problem!
would you like pancakes with that?
what is going on in people's brains
that they think i am actually going to follow through on a request for FREE
like i am some sort of wind up toy, and something so extreme as well! does
anyone have any idea what kind of work would actually go into something like
that?
why on earth would i stick a fist up myself for ONE person in germany? and
not like i would even do that for pay, but certainly not for FREE!
what, i have nothing better to do with my time than try to get a fist into
myself (or call up my lesbian friends and say hey, how about a round of fisting
this afternoon?) and somehow take quality photos of this event?
and make a "theme" out of it?
WTF?

i actually wrote my senator
for the 1st time in my life, i actually wrote to someone in politics asking
them to do something.
i did it because #1, even if it actually doesn't get the thing changed, i
think it's about time at least the VOICES of the people be heard and the government
to start REFLECTING the voices of the people. because that is what they are
there for. to SERVE the people, not the other way around. and #2 because i
just happened to know what this senator's email was because he belongs to
my mailing list and we have exchanged brief emails with each other throughout
the years, so i figured he might actually read my email.
i wrote to him this:
"hello, as you
know me, i never get involved in trying to contact my government because i
feel it's a pointless waste of time because the government does not listen
to the people.
however, i am going to give it my first try, so i am writing to you to please
support U.S. Senator Russ Feingold's resolution to censure the president.
read about it here:
http://www.feingold.senate.gov/releases/06/03/20060312.html
because what bush is doing is simply illegal, and it's completely reasonable to demand that the president of our country to actually obey the law and not illegally wiretap our telephones.
so, here you go,
my one voice, reaching out to you as a senator, to please do what you can
about this.
let your voice be heard about it, if you truly are what you say you are, believe
in keeping this country safe and serving the people and being a voice for
us and upholding the law.
please don't wimp
out on us like so many government officials are.
we, the people, have never been more disillusioned with our government, from
all parties, than we are right now.
please show us that there are still some guts left in you all.
thank you.
ana voog"

Russ Feingold on The Daily Show
Jon Stewart had on Russ Feingold tonight and let's just say that he rocked.
He rocked because he spoke truth to power. He made his case simply and to
the point.
Video-WMP
Video-QT
Feingold: I was taught that the congress makes the laws and the president is supposed to sign them and enforce them. He's not supposed to make them up.---How many times are we going to let George Bush and Dick Cheney say you guys don't support the troops, you're not patriotic and let them push us around?

Horoscope for Aries (March 24 2006)
With a minor but negative aspect between your ruling planet and Saturn it is looking as though you are in serious need of some fun. If you have had little opportunity over the past few days to let your hair down you can relax a little now and start planning something unusual for your weekend!
and
No loose ends *
This influence brings your personal, domestic and emotional life to prominence.
You will feel more integrated and at one with yourself in many ways now than
at any other time. And your relationships with other people, especially women,
should be more harmonious as well. This is because you approach everything
as a total person, with no loose ends hanging out to signify divided intentions.
The only problems with this manifestation will arise if you are afraid of
your feelings. Then this can be a turbulent and uncomfortable time, for you
will be confronting an aspect of yourself that you do not like. But disliking
your emotions is the problem, not the emotions themselves. If you find this
transit disturbing, you should examine your attitude toward your emotions.
and
You can depend upon your friends now to pull you through a complex situation, but they may not tell you exactly what you want to hear. You are ready for the party, but first there is work to be done. An abundance of creative juice will take you far, but you still could get into trouble by over-committing yourself. Be sensible instead of trying to be a hero.

We need to think about our role in the community today as the Moon enters intellectually detached Aquarius at 2:20 pm EST. Proactive Mars and bountiful Jupiter are pumping up the energy, though, encouraging us to take needless risks. And although it may be challenging to judge how much effort to apply toward any one goal, a stabilizing trine between the Sun and Saturn sharpens our organizational skills. Additionally, we have increased self-discipline, enabling us to focus our attention and complete our work.

Friday
Moon in Capricorn
Moon into Aquarius 11:21am PST
Sun trine Saturn ARIES-LEO 11:04pm PST
Now we have the plan the desire and the Aquarius moon blows winds that shuffle
it all up into the air. Best to just let it go and not chase the papers. Don't
worry it's all catalogued in your mental computer. Invite this reorienting
of the mental plan, ride it like fresh breezes in your sails. It is unconventional
and sometimes dizzying. There is a Sun trine Saturn aspect combining the fire
signs of Aries and Leo also today, which will fire up the passions. So use
this vibrancy and examine all possibilities, let the mind float free and conceive,
conceive, conceive.
You don't have to implement everything so just let the brainstorm blow. It's not going to hurt you to think so far outside the box that you can't even relate to the foolish concept of a 90 degree angle (the planet is a sphere) it's always relative to the tool you measure it with. This couple days of the Aquarius is about the nature of the concept not the concept itself, this can lead to some startling and simple ideas that can make you list look like just a day of simple errands rather than a mountain of tasks to get to your desired result.
