nite nitez:
mouseovers:
children, it's official.
drinking absinthe will not create any weird or hallucinatory effects any more
than jagermeister will.
it's just fun to drink something from the past that has this huge romantic
history and for which there is a fun "ritual" involved (the beautiful
spoons, the cubes of sugar, the "louche" effect...which is the liquor
turning from a clear luna moth green to an opaque jade).
that's it.
still there is a place in my heart for it, i guess for it's romanticism and
there is this slight feeling that you are uncovering some strange truth from
it just from the fact it's illegal in the states. and so i guess the fact
of it's illegality and expensiveness makes you savour it (funny how that works!)
why it's illegal here is seriously stupid. sure, absinthe contains almost
70% alcohol (which is why you mix it with ice water)...but you can buy alcohol
which has a "caution flammable" label on it for far less money.
any drunk or person who makes bananas flambe knows this (which makes me, i
guess not an official drunk of flambe maker since i just found this out a
few days ago).
and even the louche effect is not because of the wormwood but because of the
anise mixing with ice water.
i wish to find more about this, chemistry-wise. it's a pretty thing.
the reason absinthe is illegal is because of a substance called THUJONE that
is on wormwood. and yes, if you ingest LARGE substances of this, it will induce
seizures and all sort of things.
but the alcohol in absinthe will make you pass out (or die) WAY before any
wormwood will kill you.
and anything in large amounts will kill you.
in fact i know a guy (and please don't be mad at me for using u as an example,
i'm not using your name!) who thought he was dying of a heart attack and had
to go to hospital after eating 2 plates of spaghetti!
so everything in moderation, yes? MODERATION is the key.
so i think, why not make an absinthe-like drink which contains no wormwood?
(which you really couldn't call absinthe because absinthe derives it's name
from wormwood somehow (and i can't remember why now)
but i did find some and it's called "absente"
who knows if this is good or not. it will be interesting to note the differences
having had 'the real thing" now.
i'm quite sure that anyone drinking absinthe and has reported "hallucinatory"
effects is because they have hyped themselves into it.
i think jagermeister also had some "illegal"
ingredient in it (like cocaine, like coca cola) and it really is a "nutso"
drink, even before i knew any of it's history.
(and actually i still don't, i think i will look it up now).
all i know is jagermeister "sneaks up on you" and one minute you
are fine and the next minute you are out of your mind, with the strength of
the hulk, and the mindpower to convince everyone in your vicinity that going
to DEJA VU (where the party never ends...the strip club) is a journey to mecca.
anyway, it's the only thing that we , the blue up? (my 1st and only band)
ever said we would endorse after we got over bloody marys..and and those are
an art in themselves, as well!).
the PERFECT bloody mary mix is 2 inches from my mind!
so as much as much as i wish i could
report that absinthe (the real deal) was some sort of fantastic drug that
would lead you to "the green fairy" (which i am , btw, so you don't
need to drink absinthe to meet me!)
i must sadly (because i wanted to "trip") and happily (because the
real shit is damned expensive) report that absinthe as some sort of "portal"
(more than any other alcoholic device) is an unreality.
still, if you can afford it, there
is something really grand about drinking the same drink so many artists drank.
i understand that. it's a signature.
it's a link to another time.
and it is a pretty green (from the chlorophyl from the herbs)
jason is on my bed making little snoring sounds and "all the boys are on the bed" which is my phrase for "jason and all the pupsters are on the bed all happy and asleep, and they make a little constellation, that i love, and this constellation means "everything in it's right place"
9:36pm
the nightvision on the camcorder really shows off my veins!
8:44pm
mouseover:
just got back from a decadent birthday
dinner with jason's family.
my favourite part was finally i got to have vanilla gelatto with a sweet aged
dark brown syrupy balsamic vinegar topped of with a raspberry and a fresh
spearmint leaf!
oooo! that was REALLY GOOD. i always had wanted to taste that and now that
i have, it's my new favourite dessert.
and i had a fantastic cappucino with raw sugar cubes. YUM!
and in such a cute little cup :)
for dinner i had the lamb chops which were ok. and then i had potatoes (the
tiny red ones), too, but had them box those up.
on the way home we met a homeless woman who wanted some money for food and
i said she could have my potatoes and she was SO happy to get them. it made
me feel just awful that i had just eaten this ridiculously expensive meal
(i didn't have to pay for) and i wanted to go up and get all my food i have
and give it to her. i wish i would have had cash on me. i never have cash
on me. and i wish the store the sold food was open that were were right in
front of, but it was closed :(
i really hope i see her again so i can give her more than just a little to
go box of potatoes. farg. :(
i could so easily be her. we all could.
here i am all full and she is just so happy to get some potatoes, and i have
the luxury of saying my lamb was just "ok". and i was saying to
her i was sorry there were not more potatoes in there and she said "oh
no, this is perfect! this is all i need!" and she seemed so grateful
and happy. i've never seen her around before. i don't usually see homeless
women (that i know of).
*sigh*
i just received FINALLY a vhs cassette of a documentary about adam ant and
his battle with bipolar disorder called "the madness of prince charming"
and it's not in PAL format do i can SEE it! i've been trying to get a hold
of this documentary which played on british tv for over a year now. i'm so
excited to see this and so is jason!
we are both love adam ant so much.
*is still feeling pangs of guilt
over the homeless woman*
3:03pm
today at 6pm jason and i are going out to eat with his parent's at a fancy italian restaurant :)
absinthe was interesting. it is not
at all "trippy"
i did not get the urge to write poems or a novel or cut off my ear (van gogh):)
i suppose if you drank the entire bottle one might cut off their ear (or die
from alcohol poisoning), but one might also do this after drinking an entire
bottle of rum, as well :)
i did notice that is was a happy kind of tipsy and i didn't feel as "slow".
but i think this could have also been because jason and were happy beause
it was his birthday and i got all dressed up on my green silk velvet dress
from the 30's and shoes from the same period, and then when listened to "radio
dismuke" which plays music from the 20's on live365 :)
and the cake i made was DELICIOUS!
the taste of this particular bottle of absinthe was not at all terrible to
drink.
i was expecting it to taste like some bitter shit, but it wasn't like that
at all. it was very anise tasting and i could taste the wormwood, but only
because i have tasted straight wormwood before as a past boyfriend of mine
used to try and make a drink from that, and so i could discern the wormwood
taste in it, which is just kind of a...well WOOD flavour, kind of like toothpicks
or paper but with some bitterness. (but it was also sweet because we had sugar
in it)
it definitely tasted medicinal but it was still a very interesting and complex
taste and pleasant. but it's not something you could ever drink fast. you
have to sip it slowly, because the taste is just SO intense.
the ritual of making it was also very fun.
i love things that make you feel you are making a "potion", and
we were :) it's a good thing to drink with ice.
but ya, there was nothing trippy about it.
maybe if i had drank more it would have been more trippy.
but if you drink any hard liquor in large quantities things get kind of "trippy"
(in a way)
i wish i could sample all the bottles of absinthe there are out there so i
could taste the differences.
but it was fun to get all dressed
up. i even put hats from the 20's on the mannequins. it was fun to create
the ambiance :)
and it's a very pretty drink, it looks like a creamy jade.
2:28pm
i've found my favourite photographer, Eugenio Recuenco:

Horoscope for Aries (July 23 2005)
Today is all about having fun with friends, family and children. There should be no work, just play. The less you schedule, the better.
and
Genuine interest
Today you can increase your understanding of yourself and your goals, as well
as of others and their goals. Your mind is functioning clearly now, and you
should be able to get your point across. But you are not concerned with just
making your own point, you are also genuinely interested in the other person's
point of view. You are aware that your thinking and ideas have made an impact
on others, and you want to find out how you have affected them. This is a
good time for all kinds of studying and learning. Your mind is quick and receptive,
and you are eager to expand your knowledge in any area you encounter. You
can put this curiosity and eagerness to know to your advantage. You will quickly
discover that the more you understand about a situation, the better able you
will be to handle any problems that arise.
and
You are often on to the next thing before you are finished with the current one. But today you understand the positive side of slowing down and seeing a job through to the end. Accept delays as part of the process and stick with the task at hand, even if you'd prefer to be doing something new.
