back from our walk. there is a huge fence around the cave that goes on for quite a few blocks all along the edge of the cliff. so we couldn't get across to the cave because we couldn't figure out how to get across the fence.
so tomorrow we are going to go a different way. there was a huge group of people congregatd by the cave and we, at first, thought it was maybe a bunch of indians having a ceremony. and i thought what are the chances that today of all days i want to get over to that cave and there are indians having a ceremony there? it was pretty far away so it was hard to really see what was going on. so we stood there trying to discern what it was. and a lot of people had what looked like white sticks in their hand. but i think it was rolled up maps and the crowd was some sort of tour or else a bunch of archeology students having a saturday outing. and there seemed to be a steady stream of people moving though that area. so what i think is going on is that cave WAS covered up by bushes and vegetation, and that is why i haven't seen it until now. and i think maybe they are making a pathway to go down there. and that is what all the fencing is about. and at the mouth of the cave are lots of little orange flags in the ground marking places. so either #1 there is going to be some sort of archeological dig that si going to be happening there or #2 they are making a path to go down t this cave finally and they are going to put benches there or markers of some kind that tells the history of this place, which i think would be really darn cool. because i think it's just shameful that such a sacred place should just be forgotten and hidden and not given SOME sort of acknowledgement and dignity. either way i'll be keeping my eye on that place and see what will transpire.

i took some photos of things here and there and i'll work on getting those up in here soon.
but 1st i need to eat something and take a quick bath.

i went up to the side of the cliff at a different spot where no fence is around and i don't know why i never saw before the tons of initial carvings in the sandstone there. i've walked up to that cliff a bunch of times but never saw these carvings. and they are all over the place so i have no idea how i could have missed something that obvious.
most of it is just initials. but thne of course they has to be the obligatory "fuck you" to someone on there.

thanks for taking the time to carve that into the cliff, asshole.
the reason i saw the carvings is that someone painted white paint around a cross that was carved there.
that is probably from someone dying there as many people have either accidently or purposely thrown themselves off that cliff and died. probably more accidently because the cliff bottom and top both seem like good hangouts for teenagers being drunk and checking out the "spooky" indian burial mounds. and when you are at the top, you can see how easy it would be to get to close to the edge when it's dark out and and poof, go right over.
and it's probably as tall as a ten story building at least, so you would be guaranteed to die.

i found about 7 rusty railroad spikes without even trying. they were all over the place. i want to go back and get more. why? i don't know.
i just love rusty iron things. so i had to haul as many as i could carry in my hands. why are there so many spikes lying around?
do they put new spikes in every few years or something?
what's the deal with that?

also saw lots of geese and ducks and i love this little pond tha got made in the last few years and with all the rain we've been getting the pond is really big this year. it was full of frogs singing about a month ago and now i don't hear any more frogs, so i wonder what is the life span of a frog?

i seriously love my city. i love where i live. it is the best ever place. where else can you see geese, frogs, beavers, barges, collect railroad spikes, watch barges, see indian burial mounds and caves, and then come back and eat japanese noodle soup and be in the city? that is pretty cool in my book. i love it here so much.
if only we had the ocean here and no mosquitoes it would be perfect.
weirdly, i haven't seen any mosquitoes yet. i think it's been too cold for them so far?
usually they would be rampant by now.
i'll bet any day now they are going to hatch and it will be just awful, especially since we've had so much rain and so there is so much water for them to breed in. yuck. i'm not looking forwrd to it.

i haven't seen many insects at all this year. i've seen some ants and gnats, and i did see ONE ladybug.

i wonder if their are any lilac bushes still blooming or did i miss that again this year? fuzzy brought me some lilacs the other day when we went to go learn how to make that silk paper. they smelled soooo delicious. i think lilacs are my favourite scent ever.
that and peonies.

it's weird that my nair looks blonde in the nightvision.
i wonder how that nightvision works.
sometimes clothes i wear that are black look very light in it. like a very light grey. while other black clothing will stay black.
i want to know, scientifically, what is happening with that and why it does that.
why do certain dyes seem "invisible" to nightvision?
getting ready to go for a walk.

12:21pm

another windy day. my windows rattle and whistle and howl.
50% chance of thunderstorms all day.
right now it's 1/2 sunny and hazy and i'm listening to john foxx.
want to go for a walk before 3pm when the thunderstorms might start.
on our walk yesterday i think i finally found the semi famous cave where the many tribes of indians used to meet.
i wasn't anywhere near it to walk up to it but i saw it from far away all cemented up.
i'd been looking for it for a long time now, and i guess i just didn't see it until now because a train was always in the way of it. but i swear, i've found it. i can see the opening and it's the same size and shape as depicted in the pictures.
it's really a shame how the white man completely destroyed this beautiful cave that used to have beautiful hieroglyphs on the outside of it, and also inside. and there was a crystal clear mini lake inside. it must have been amazingly beautiful and haunting. then they put a train past it and 1/2 blew the thing up and many families warred over who owned it and it was kept as a storage area for gunpowder or something. i have to read the story again.
what a shame that such a sacred place to the indians and just a beautiful place altogether would be detroyed by us. so typical. above the cliff from the cave are indian mounds. and everytime i walk past i try to imagine what it must have looked like as they had their funerals up there. and i imagine all the canoes that came up and down the river with things to trade with neighbouring tribes. and all the indians in the cave with peacepipes and singing and fire and the crystal clear lake and how amazing that must have looked.
i wonder if in one of my past lifes as an indian i ever was in that cave.
and maybe that is why i feel so at home here, because this place has been my home for thousands of years.

there are lots of smaller caves somewhere around here all along the river. but i've never seen any of them. just last year some kids got inside one and 3 out of 4 died because they got too far in and i guess when you go that far in you run out of air and they didn't have the sense to know this. so that is all cemented up now, too. but i've never seen where this is.

On the surface, it looks like all is well, but then something happens that puts you in touch with what you should have seen all along. Unfortunately, you may not have noticed because you tried to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Now, however, you're feeling somewhat sheepish at the realizations that you've been taken for a ride. There's still time to save face. Acknowledge your mistakes and then do what you can to remedy the problem.
