here's what the sydney sunday papers said yesterday:
LEAVING AN IMPRESSION
Richard Sharah, a Bathurst boy who had a talent with make-up, died last week
in Annandale. Sharah took his skill becoming world famous (sic), working with
those who defined the fashion look of the 1970s and '80s including photographers
David Bailey, Norman Parkinson and Annie Liebovitz, models Verushka, Marie
Helvin and Kelly Le Brock to Elle Macpherson and practically every international
magazine title and cosmetic house. He was a perfect example of the Australian
ability to succeed. In 1973, during Sharah's first week in London, he lost
his wallet and a woman gave him 40 pence to get home. The next morning he
thought, "If you start at the bottom rung of the ladder, you will get
to the top." He certainly did.
the other paper had a couple of mentions: "The untimely death of avant-garde make-up artist and charming man Richard Sharah" (plus a pic); and "... Last weekend also saw the sudden death of acclaimed make-up artist Richard Sharah, who put Australia on the map by "painting" some of the most famous women in the world. These creative men will be sorely missed."
